FREE CHAIR YOGA CLASS

Join me for an invigorating and relaxing Chair Yoga class, crafted to be both safe and inclusive for everyone. If you’re looking for a gentle yet effective routine to enhance your balance, build strength, reduce anxiety, and improve overall well-being, this class is perfect for you.

In our sessions, you’ll experience modified yoga postures that you can practice while seated or standing with chair support. I’ll guide the group through movements and stretches in a supportive and nurturing environment. Each class ends with a soothing guided relaxation to help you unwind and leave feeling refreshed.

No prior yoga experience is necessary—just a willingness to explore and benefit from the practice. You’ll also have the opportunity to connect with like-minded individuals on a similar wellness journey.

Intro to Hatha Yoga at Westchester Community College

This class is for adults who have never tried yoga and those who don’t feel comfortable or safe in a general yoga studio/gym yoga class.  In this class, participants learn some basics of yoga history and philosophy, breathing techniques, and yogic postures.  This class teaches how to practice the postures step by step, explaining benefits, medical contraindications, and adaptations if needed.  This course aims to safely and confidently practice independently or in a general group class.  Bring yoga mats and (optional) yoga blocks.

Yoga for Healthy Bones - Preventing and Reversing Osteoporosis at Westchester Community College

CE-FITNS 2108 Valhalla Campus, July 14 - August 18, 2026 Tuesdays, 4:00 PM - 5:30 PM Knolwood Center

About half of the U.S. population over 50 is at risk of osteoporotic fracture.  Yoga is the only method without adverse side effects that can prevent and reverse bone density loss.  Among other benefits, it improves balance and helps prevent falls.  In this course, participants will learn the most popular of the three Yoga vs. Osteoporosis series studied by Dr. Loren Fishman.  This course is appropriate for people already diagnosed with osteopenia or osteoporosis, as well as those who want to learn how to improve their bone density, which naturally deteriorates with age.  The instructor will offer variations to make postures accessible to people with different abilities.  Everyone will also learn how to practice them safely with a chair.  Please bring a yoga belt, a mat, and two yoga blocks.

Yoga for Healthy Bones Level 2 - Preventing and Reversing Osteoporosis at Westchester Community College

CE-FITNS 2113 Valhalla Campus, July 14 - August 18, 2026 Tuesdays, 5:45 PM - 6:45 PM Knolwood Center

A dynamic, 60-minute weight-bearing class designed to support and strengthen bone health through a targeted, therapeutic yoga practice. This class is based on the method developed by Dr. Loren Fishman, a well-studied and clinically supported approach to improving bone density using specific yoga postures and precise alignment.

Building on the foundation of the Yoga for Bone Health course, this Level 2 class incorporates postures from Series 1, along with selected poses from Series 2 and 3. The practice is more active and progressive, focusing on strength, stability, and mindful engagement while maintaining a safe approach to movement.

Appropriate for those who are ready to deepen their practice and continue building resilience in a structured and supportive setting.

Prerequisite: Completion of the Yoga for Bone Health course or a well-established yoga practice.

Please bring: a yoga mat, blocks, and a yoga belt.

YOGA FAMILY PROGRAMS AT SIVANANDA YOGA RETREAT PARADISE ISLAND

Marta Shedletsky (Gauri Devi) has been leading Yoga Family Programs ("Family Weeks") at Sivananda Ashram Yoga Retreat in the Bahamas since 2016. During "Family Weeks," while the parents enjoy their asana classes, their children have their own Yoga Retreat.  

They meet in the morning and the afternoon to meet new friends and be introduced to yoga through short asana classes, chanting, crafts, storytelling, lots of games and fun, and Karma Yoga (service/pitching into the ashram community).
